Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ziti or penne pasta
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 lb ground beef or lamb
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 4 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook the pasta in salted boiling water until al dente; drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté onions and garlic until soft, then add ground meat until browned. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and spices; simmer for 15–20 minutes.
- For the béchamel sauce, melt butter in a saucepan. Whisk in flour until golden. Gradually add milk while whisking to avoid lumps until thickened; stir in nutmeg, salt, pepper, and Parmesan cheese.
- In a greased baking dish, layer half the pasta, followed by the meat sauce and remaining pasta. Pour béchamel evenly on top.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden brown; let rest before serving.
