- 4 whole fresh apples (Fuji or Granny Smith)
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup light corn syrup
- 1 cup water
- 1 teaspoon gel-based food coloring
- 1 teaspoon flavoring extract (cherry, grape, or banana)
Instructions
- Thoroughly wash and dry the apples; insert wooden sticks halfway into the top of each apple.
- In a saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Heat over medium until sugar dissolves completely.
- Monitor temperature with a candy thermometer; bring mixture to 300°F (hard crack stage).
- Remove from heat; stir in food coloring and flavoring extract quickly.
- Dip each apple into the hot mixture until fully coated; let excess syrup drip off.
- Place coated apples on a parchment-lined baking sheet and allow to cool until the candy hardens.
