Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, mix dry ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
- In another bowl, whisk together wet ingredients: milk, oil, eggs, and vanilla.
- Combine wet and dry mixtures until just blended; then add hot water gradually.
- Fold in optional chocolate chips if desired.
- Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for 40–50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
