Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar

- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 tbsp cornstarch
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 4 tbsp butter (for frosting)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
- 3 tbsp heavy cream (for frosting)
- Patriotic sprinkles for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×9 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, beat together softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and extracts; mix well.
- In another bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt. Gradually stir this into the wet mixture until just combined.
- Spread the dough evenly in the prepared pan and bake for about 15 minutes or until golden around the edges. Allow to cool completely.
- While cooling, prepare the frosting by beating together softened butter with powdered sugar, adding vanilla extract and heavy cream until smooth.
- Frost cooled bars with icing and top with patriotic sprinkles. Cut into squares and serve.
