- 1 cup chopped dates
- 1 cup homogenized milk
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup dark brown sugar
- 2 eggs (room temperature)
- 2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour

- For the Salty Caramel Sauce: ⅓ cup butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- ½ cup cream
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F and lightly butter an 11 x 8-inch casserole dish.
- Soak the chopped dates in scalded milk mixed with baking soda for about 15 minutes.
- In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. In a food processor, blend eggs, brown sugar, butter, and vanilla; then mix in dry ingredients and date mixture until smooth.
- Pour the batter into the dish and bake for approximately 30 minutes until golden.
- Prepare the caramel sauce by melting butter and mixing in brown sugar until dissolved; then add cream until bubbling.
- After baking, poke holes in the cake and pour one-third of the caramel sauce over it to soak.
- Allow to rest for 15 minutes before serving warm with additional caramel sauce and whipped cream.
