Instructions

- Gradually mix in dry ingredients alternating with buttermilk until combined.
- Divide batter between pans and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool cakes in pans before transferring to wire racks.
- For the filling, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, lemon zest, and juice until smooth; fold in whipped cream.
- Assemble by spreading filling between cake layers and topping with remaining whipped cream.
- Garnish as desired and chill before serving.
