- 2 boxes white cake mix (15.25 ounces each)
- 6 egg whites
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 2 cups water
- Gel food coloring (red and blue)

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F and prepare three 8-inch round cake pans with cooking spray.
- In a large bowl, combine cake mix, egg whites, vegetable oil, and water until smooth.
- Divide batter into three bowls; color one red, one blue, and leave one white.
- Pour each color into its respective pan and bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool in pans for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack to cool completely.
- For frosting, beat softened butter with powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
- Assemble the cake by layering red, white, and blue cakes with frosting in between.
- Frost the entire cake with remaining buttercream and decorate as desired.
- Chill for at least an hour before serving.
