- 1 loaf sweet bread (brioche or challah), torn into 1-inch pieces
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 8 ounces cream cheese, chilled and cubed
- 1 1/2 cups dark chocolate chunks
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Place torn sweet bread evenly in the greased dish.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
- Pour the custard over the bread and gently press down to submerge.
- Soak at room temperature for at least 30 minutes or refrigerate overnight.
- Stir in cream cheese cubes and 1 cup of chocolate chunks after soaking.
- Sprinkle remaining chocolate on top and bake for 45-55 minutes until golden brown with a slightly jiggly center.
- Allow to cool for 15-20 minutes before serving warm.
