  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: Approximately 12 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm whole milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup cold unsalted butter (for laminating)
  • 7 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for filling)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • milk or lemon juice (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. In another bowl, mix warm milk with yeast; let sit until foamy.
  2. Add egg and yeast mixture to dry ingredients; mix until dough forms. Knead for 6-8 minutes and chill for 30 minutes.
  3. Shape cold butter into an 8-inch square and chill it until firm.
  4. Roll out dough into a 16-inch square, place the butter block in the center, and fold corners over to seal.
  5. Roll into a long rectangle; fold into thirds like a letter and chill again. Repeat twice more.
  6. Roll dough to a 1/4-inch thickness and cut into squares; add cream cheese filling in the center.
  7. Allow shaped danishes to rise for an hour on parchment-lined sheets before baking at 390°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes until golden.
  8. Cool completely then drizzle with glaze before serving.
