Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
- In a mixing bowl, cream together butter, sugar, vanilla, and salt. Gradually mix in flour until combined. Press into the bottom of the baking dish.
- Toss sliced apples with flour, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg; spread over the shortbread layer.
- Combine remaining flour with brown sugar and melted butter to form crumbs; sprinkle over apples.
- Bake for about 45 minutes until golden brown on top.
- Allow cooling before cutting into squares.
