- 1 loaf Pasquier Sliced Brioche (17.6 ounces)
- 4 tablespoons butter (melted)
- 4 eggs
- 2 1/4 cups milk (2% or whole)
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon fresh lemon zest
- 2 cups assorted fresh berries
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Cut the brioche into 1-inch cubes and toast on a baking sheet until lightly golden.
- In a large bowl, combine toasted brioche with melted butter.
- In another bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, salt, and lemon zest until well mixed.
- Lightly coat an 8 x 8 inch baking dish with butter.
- Layer half of the bread cubes in the dish followed by half of the berries; repeat the layers.
- Pour custard over the bread and gently press down to ensure absorption.
- Bake for 45–50 minutes until golden brown; cover with foil if browning too quickly.
- Let cool for at least 20 minutes before serving.
